When starting an installation, Windows XP may tell you something similar like:

"Error in 16-Bit-Application / Can't run 16 bit Windows program
File 'xxx' not found. Please make sure, that the file names and paths are correct and all necessary library files are available."

Info: This error was solved with install-us version 4.5 (release 1/2003) or later.

Solution:

1. Start Windows registry editor: START - Run - regedt32.
2. Search the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem.
3. Change the DWORD value »NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation« to »0«.
4. Close the registrry editor and reboot Windows.
5. Rename the directory, in which the setup.exe resides, to a new name. Now you can start the installation.

Remark: The value »NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation« can have two values: »0«: Windows creates an additional 8.3 compatible directory name at every directory action (like creation and renaming). By setting this value to »1« you can deactivate this automatic behaviour. The system gets slightly faster, but - as you might have experienced - with some programs compatibility problems arise.
